Needed an insanity break:

Wednesday Mind Hump - Week 75

Happy Hump Day, Humperoos and Humperahs. We've had a request for another Say What Wednesday Mind Hump. We aim to please so .....

"Say What" Wednesday Mind Hump

Say What? is a "complete this sentence" challenge. The challenge? Below is a list of common cliches and/or some lesser known sayings. Your mission should you decide to accept it is complete the sentence with your own crazy ending. Here's an example for ya!

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him .... (sample answers) ... do the backstroke ... mop the floor.

On your marks, get set, HUMP!

01. Sometimes you put walls up not to keep people out but ... to keep your house from falling down

02. In the middle of difficulty lies ...ficu
03. The best weapon against an enemy is ...to make them a friend
04. He who loves fifty people ... has a very active sex life!
06. To find out a girl's faults ... ask her enemies
07. Never use a cannon to ...shoot a squirrel
08. Stolen kisses are ... hard to return

Interview: Well, I had my interview at BD this morning. Actually it consisted of an eye exam, an interview with the man who heads up the tubing department and a walk through of the job. The job itself is called an unscrambler and involves a lot of things. One is to stack the empty tube crates as they come back to your line. You also have huge bags of tubes and you have to untie the bottom and get the tubes moving through the machine. You put the empty crates on the other conveyer to be filled with tubes as it unscrambles or sorts them. If the machine jams up you stop it, climb up on a two step ladder, move the tray that jammed and restart the machine. The picture shown is close to the one they have there. Continuous movement and tedious, but not a lot of brain work. There are three people working the line so I wouldn't be on my own. Now I just have to sit back and wait and see what happens. They did have a problem there with cracked tubes, so the person interviewing me was a bit distracted... oh, and I do hope my sense of humor didn't blow it for me....

After the interview and walk through, Mike, the guy who did the walk through took me back to the HR dept. Miss Goodman, the woman I deal with there, was trying to say something and got mixed up and said her brain wasn't functioning. Of course, after having just been going through the descrambling routine I said, "maybe it just needs descrambling." She looked at Mike and said, "you cannot use that line." and he said, "But it's such a good one." They both smiled, so hopefully they do have a sense of humor.

So...keep keeping those fingers and toes crossed for me!

Job Hunting situation! Went in for the interview this morning and had to fill out tons and tons of paperwork. Unfortunately, SVHS has not seen fit to send my transcripts yet. I called again this morning and the young woman said she was doing transcripts today, so I gave her the fax number for the employment agency and they have not yet been received.

Also, for an employer to get my previous employment record from Verizon they must pay!!! Can you believe it! Well, of course, they don't want to do that so I have had to call and will now have the employment verification mailed to me (which I will make copies of) and then take it to the agency.

I am getting frustrated, aggravated, and irritated!! All I want is a stupid job. And to top it off after I got home from the agency, this morning, I received a call they had forgotten to give me their testing. So, I had to go back. After I was told I did excellent on all the tests, BUT I still need the #$%^%$#$$ HS transcripts and the employment verification before they can put me in the listings for jobs!

I remember when you went in, applied, either got the job or didn't! All this test after test after test, criminal background checks, employment verifications (okay, that I can understand), and HS transcripts from 100 years ago... okay... 39 years ago and sign over your first born... I am beginning to understand why there are so many unemployed here! They make it more difficult to get a job then to get welfare!

Okay...end of rant. I'll keep you updated.

Sigh!!! As everyone knows I have been actively pursuing a job at a manufacturing plant here. I don't care if I work on the line or in the office. I just want a job. I have been going through Kelly Services, as they were only hiring through that agency. Week after week I would call the Kelly person and be told she had nothing, until last Monday when I called and she giggled, and laughed, and giddily told me the contract had been sold to another staffing service and she was no longer responsible. I asked if she had transferred all the paperwork and she giggled again and said, nope, that I would have to start all over and said goodbye and hung up laughing. Bitch. So, I went down to Carolina Tech, since I was in the area anyway at the post office, and asked the woman there about the transfer to the other agency. She was pretty upset with Kelly herself and said they had only had a weeks warning on the transfer.

While we were talking she pulled up my scores and said, "Wow! with these scores why are you even going through a staffing agency? I don't understand why they didn't hire you right off." She then suggested I go to the company and try to talk directly to the Human Resource person and not waste time with the staffing agency. I did go, talked with the woman, but she said unfortunately it depended on what was open and they didn't hire directly, so yes, I would still have to go through the staffing agency. Darn!!!

So, I did... the woman there also looked at the scores and said, "impressive!" She also said the company may require one more test! Sheesh!! I already took five, including a math test, and I thought I was bad at math but scored highest in that. Anyway...

I have an appointment Monday morning with her and we'll see where we go from there. In the meantime, I've been trying to get a copy of my highschool transcript - from 1966!!!! Hopefully, they will have a fax number they will allow the highschool to send the transcript too, when they finally dig far enough in the archives and find them.

In the meantime...keep your fingers and toes crossed for me. I really, really need a job!!!

Well, I'm still line dancing and still enjoying it. Only problem I have is I find I really don't like most of the country western music. Especially Achy Breaky! So, if you see me laughing and smiling out there on the floor as we dance to Achy Breaky with good old boy Billy Ray Cyrus singing (I guess that's what you call it) in my head I'm singing the Wierd Al Yankovich Version :-). For anyone interested it goes as follows:

Don't play that song
That "Achy Breaky" song
The most annoying song I know
And if you play that song
That "Achy Breaky" song
I might blow up my radio, ooo...

You can torture me
With Donnie & Marie
You can play some Barry Manilow
Or you can play some schlock
Like New Kids On The Block
Or any Village People song you know
Or play Vanilla Ice
Hey, you can play him twice
And you can play the Bee Gees any day
But Mr. DJ, please
I'm beggin' on my knees
I just can't take no more of Billy Ray

Don't play that song
That "Achy Breaky" song
The most annoying song I know
And if you play that song
That "Achy Breaky" song
I might blow up my radio, ooo...

You can clear the room
By playind Debbie Boon
Or crank your Abba records until dawn
Oh, I can even hear
Slim Whitman or Zamfir
Don't mind a Yoko Ono marathon
Or play some Tiffany
On 8-track or CD
Or scrape your fingernails across the board
Or tie me to a chair
And kick me down the stairs
Just please don't play that stupid song no more

Don't play that song
That "Achy Breaky" song
You know I hate that song a bunch
And if you play that song
That nauseating song
It might just make me lose my lunch, ooo...

Don't play that song
That "Achy Breaky" song
I think it's driving me insane
Oh, please don't play that song
That irritating song
I'd rather have a pitchfork in my brain...

Don't play that song
That "Achy Breaky" song
The most annoying song I know
And if you play that song
That "Achy Breaky" song
I might blow up my radio, ooo-woo...

The Great Fall of Zephyr! Well, I knew it would happen sooner or later. The cats have been trying to help Keith collect on my life insurance policy for quite some time now. Not sure what he bribes them with, but last night they almost succeeded. I was walking from my chair and as I passed behind the coffee table one of the cats had pushed out a box that somehow I managed to catch my foot on, trip and go flying. The first thing I saw coming at me, or rather, me heading too, was the TV and I thought, No! can't hit that because if I break it Keith will kill me. So, I turned my body and saw bad move!! I was now heading head first into the stack of DVD and VHS players he has hooked to the TV (6 in all) and thought to myself nope!! can't hit that he'd really kill me. So, I somehow managed to turn even more, in the midst of a long fall I managed to miss all vital appliances. Yes, I did end up breaking a part of me though... sigh... the nail on my middle finger of my right hand. Yep, now when I show people my boo boo from the great fall I can give them the finger at the same time! Don't ask how I managed to do that and not have any real injuries or break any major appliances, but what is really strange is the fall didn't last that long but I really did have time to process all those thoughts as I went down. Sorry Keith, no insurance this time. I'm tougher than you think!

Yard sale you wouldn't believe! I belong to a group called TOPS. We are a non-profit weight-loss support group. We have various events which must be paid for, so each of us in our group has hosted a yard sale. Well, mine was August 5th and 6th. I am still chuckling over the events that turned it from a simple yard sale into something not to be believed.

Friday was a beautiful day. We had everything out and while sales weren't brisk, we were selling. Then two vans pulled up and 3 black women got out of each van. Acting as if they didn't know each other they separated those of us watching the sale by asking questions about various items and distracting our attention from the other women. When they left they had purchased a 50 cent item. But, after they were gone we noticed a beautiful dress one had been looking at and at least half the jewelry was gone! Yep, they ripped us off at a yard sale! How low is that?

Then another buyer purchased a TV after being told without cable it would only get 5 or 6 channels, but the woman wanted it and the person who had brought it again told her it wouldn't pick up more than those few channels.

Thus ended Friday.

Saturday started off okay, but we weren't set up very long when it started to rain. Well, it wasn't a hard rain so we moved all the tables under the tree and that helped. Then the woman with the TV returned to bring it back stating it didn't work. When asked couldn't she get anything on it she said, yes, but only 5 or 6 channels. It wouldn't pick up the cable channels. Do you have cable in your home? she was asked. No, but this wouldn't pick up the cable. Okay, time for a duh!!! moment. So, she made a fuss and we returned her money.

Now, it started to rain with a vengence so we packed everything up and put some back in my shed to take to a thrift store and took the rest to the place we would hold the next yard sale. No sooner did it stop raining when a man pulled in and demanded to know where the yard sale was. Soaking wet I explained we had been rained out. He said, well, it aint raining now and you advertised it so where is it. I looked at him with amazement...another duh moment please... we were rained out... I'm soaked. The sale is over. He finally leaves.

The women return for another load and another car pulls up and this time the woman demands we set everything back up for her because it isn't raining now and the ad said until 2 pm. We couldn't believe it but explained it would not go back up. Within minutes it was pouring again.

You gotta love the south!! And some of my friends here think northerners are rude because we're honest about our opinions and feelings and don't sugar coat things with sweeties and pretending we like someone only to snipe behind their backs. Yep, even in the south, sweeties, they can be downright nasty.

The funniest part is one of the women had to leave to go to school on Saturday, and when she returned after the rain, to help put things away she asked if we had made money that day and I looked at her and said, no, actually we lost money today.

What a hoot!! And after all that I can still say we had fun. We had some good laughs and it was time spent with good friends. When I told my mother all about it she was laughing so hard and asked if I thought they would ever let me have another yard sale here. Probably not!!

Line dancing - Okay some of you are going to say WTF!! Line dancing? why would she want to do something like that...for exercise and fun! The senior citizen center here (The Spectrum) offers line dancing lessons every tuesday night from 7 PM to 7:30 PM and then from 7:30 to 8:30 it's for the more advanced. So I went... I took the half hour lesson and stayed and danced and had fun. Okay, so I tripped over my own feet a couple times, turned left when I should have turned right, went back when I was supposed to go forward, but no one else was that great and we were all having fun. So, if you want to know where to find me tuesday nights now just stop by the spectrum and step in line!

you'd go and save the best for last
sometimes the very thing you're looking for
is the one thing you can't see
sometimes the snow comes down in june
sometimes the sun goes 'round the moon
just when I thought our chance had passed
you'd go and save the best for last
you went and saved the best for last.
